Electrical Hazards In Coal Mining

Australian Workers Film Guide

Summary

Commissioned by the Joint Coal Board, the film opens with footage of underground machinery, emphasizing the dangers presented by electrical cabling.  On the surface and underground, cable overheating is simulated and scenes are shown of cables catching fire.  A simulated flashing burning event is shown as an electrician inserts an electrical diode, followed by a demonstration of safe practices.

This is followed by instruction on how to conduct safe installations on mobile substations, the dangers of electricity underground, unsafe belt practice and the need to isolate power before starting work.  Scenes are also shown testing electrical boxes, including an explosive test.
